...with my blogging like I shoulddah been.
I've definitely dropped off for a bit there and haven't felt moved to write. Stress will do that to ya.
I wish, though, that I had been writing more personal entries over the past months because there is no way, at this point, I could detail all the "traumas and dramas" I've been put through in these last few months. I can only sum things up in a few short paragraphs which I will try to do.
But first I should say, I really wanted this blog to be a true representation of my journey both good and horrid, lol. I'm afraid though, that I let me ego get in the way of my honesty and it's kept me from writing things that I felt might hurt my "image" as a "disco diva" (whatever the hell that means!). But, I've grown quite a bit lately and I realize that I don't care anymore about living up to what I think peoples' idea of me is. I have to stay true to who I am and what I'm about. And no matter what industry I find myself breaking into..."It's never THAT deep" that I have to pretend to be something or somewhere I'm not just to save a little face....and I do mean little! The title of this blog is "Chronicles of a 'Rising' Diva". "Rising".....I had to remind myself of that. I'm still trying to make it happen for myself! I haven't gotten "there" yet and if I had, there would be no need for this blog, DUHZ!! Ah, Me.
I love that I've had some success in music and I love that I have entertained people across the planet and they have found enjoyment in what I have contributed to the industry. I hope to continue that;) I love and appreciate all the support that I have received thus far. Thank you. Thank All of you.
With that being said, this is where I am today:
Things with Mad Monk went awry. Besides having some artistic differences, there where just some fundamental issues that didn't allow me to feel comfortable moving forward with more projects with Monk. I wish them the very best and much success in the future.
I'm still making music and will be involved in various projects scheduled to release in the coming months. (Details in future blogs)
And guess what???....I'll also be chronicling my passage into the acting arena!!! Yes, I'm coming out as a "thespian" ....Don't tell my parents;)
So, please. Allow me to start over and share the real deal with all of you. It's not gonna be pretty sometimes, but it will be entertaining. I'll only use this space for personal, real life entries. No press releases and things of that nature...
So again, here's where I stand today:
- Indie Artist (No longer with Mad Monk) collaborating with good friends in the music industry
- Dusting off my resume and entering the acting world...fa reals this time!
- Still strugglin to make it to the top.
- Temporarily living in Fl (which I hate...no offense to Floridians)and gots to make the best of where I am now.
- Not living off of my art...yet:( But hope to one day soon.
-Appreciating my friends inside and outside of the industry for their love, loyalty, and support.
So where from here???...Follow me and lets find out together...oh and tell a friend.
If we're not yet following each other on Twitter, holla at me and we can keep up on the mini dramas in each others lives... fun:)
kiss, kiss, hug hug, little kiss, big hug, big kiss, little hug,
Ohsha

Beatnik Castle added to Billboard’s Breakouts for Hot Dance Club Play!
Beatnik Castle added to Billboard’s Breakouts for Hot Dance Club Play!
“This couldn’t have come at a better time,” sighs an exhausted Quincy B, adding that 2010 is “starting to get busy.” Beatnik Castle was invited to perform at the Deet Promotions Winter Music Conference Showcase at Twist and, according to Top 10 Billboard artist and new Beatnik singer Ohsha Kai, “I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed performing the new single!” Performing with Ohsha Kai were back-up singers Jamesson Beane (filling in for regular back-up Ariale Brown, who couldn’t attend) and Leemarie, who, with Tampa rapper Apoca, performed Beatnik Castle’s Latin/Rap version of “Will U B Mine?” appropriately, titled “Tu Puedos Ser Mio?” Former Beatnik Castle featured singer Francillia also performed as well.
Beatnik Castle’s second single “How Do You Mend a Broken Heart (Like Mine)?” featuring Ohsha Kai should be ready for release by summer 2010. The trailer is currently available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VmWjS_O8Vc. And, according to those DJ’s who’ve heard the track, is already is creating a stir because of its retro 70’s style vibe, (Beatnik Castle’s signature style), and, of course, the powerful soulful vocals of Ohsha Kai. Incidentally, “Tu Puedos Ser Mio?” (the backbeat is the instrumental from Georgie Porgie’s WUBM tribal mix with additional electronic goodies from Quincy) and a Spanish acoustic version of the song (performed by Leemarie, who also sang back-up on “Broken Heart”) will be available soon.
“We’re sticking with the same team on this one as well, “ says Quincy, adding that, to date, remixers Josh Harris, Cato K, Lenny B, Julian Marsh, and Majik Boys and more have committed to the new single. “Why change horses in midstream?” Also joining the Beatnik Team is songwriter, arranger, and producer Bobby G. Summers, a multi-talented musician and founding member of The Deele (with L.A. Reed and Babyface). Summers has worked with The Bar-Kays, General Kane, Sly and the Family Stone and was the Music Director for Enterprise Orchestra that toured with Rev. Al Green for over 15 years. Summers and Beatnik castle will collaborate on an acoustic/piano version of “Broken Heart” which, according to Quincy B, will feature incredible arrangements and, of course, “plenty of killer vibe!”

WELL....It's Official!!! Hear Ye Hear Ye...Read the Press Release
It’s Official! Ohsha Kai Joins the Mad Monk Family!
TAMPA - Indeed, rumors have persisted about Beatnik Castle but, thankfully, the rumors are finally over and it’s official! International singing sensation Top 10 Billboard artist Ohsha Kai is an official member of Beatnik Castle and the Mad Monk, Ltd Family! The fiery, soulful Philadelphia-born recording artist, according to Mad Monk CEO Quincy B. Scovill, will bring “invigorating soul, heartfelt aptitude, and a distinguished musical prowess” as well as a commanding stage presence and captivating yet distinct vocal aura reflecting an innate drive and determination notwithstanding among contemporary singer/songwriters. Ohsha Kai joins other Mad Monk Artists Blind Granny, Peasants of Posture, Beatnik Castle and Scovill Avenue.
Ohsha is no stranger to the world of high-energy dance.
A well-rounded session singer for many R & B, hip-hop, and dance artists, Ohsha Kai’s first single - "Free Your Mind" - an upbeat soulful dance stomper, skyrocketed to # 1 on Billboard’s Breakout charts in July 2006 and rose to # 6 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play Chart. "Free Your Mind" also spent 15 weeks on Billboard and was on iTunes’ Top Ten list for dance recording downloads, Top 3 on Sirius Satellite Radio, Top 10 on the World Dance Charts, and recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and placed on the Official Grammy Ballot for “Best New Song” in 2007.
Ohsha's follow up single “Out of My Mind” was released in May 2007 and, like its predecessor, hit Billboard’s Top 10 and stayed on iTunes’ Top 50 dance charts for several weeks. Her current single is a high energy dance remake of Nu Shooz classic “I Can't Wait” and is on CAPP Records' highly successful compilation series, Best of 80's Dance Vol. 3. Following a stunning performance at the 2006 Winter Music Conference in Miami, renown dance promoter and DJ Harry F. Towers proclaimed that 2006 was "...the year of Ohsha Kai!”
“What’s really special is that I’ll be a member of the Deet family once again,” Ohsha admits. “Harry has been my musical godfather these past few years and he never gave up on me!” Beatnik Castle’s current single and video, “Will U B Mine?” (featuring singer Francillia) is currently being played worldwide and promoted by Harry and Deet Promotions.
Ohsha’s first single and video, “How Do You Mend a Broken Heart (Like Mine)?” is, according to both Ohsha and Quincy, a stunning old school-style musical composition that features “plenty of backing vocals and 70’s style strings. Ohsha Kai and “Broken Heart” will be featured on Beatnik Castle’s sophomore release Spring 2010. In the meantime, Ohsha and the eccentric Mr. Scovill are diligently working on a much-anticipated full length album to be released Fall 2010 on Mad Monk LTD. According to Quincy, Ohsha brings an “impressive potpourri of musical talent” to an already unique, wild and whacky world of psychedelic dance/pop.
“Her voice is incredible,” exclaims an excited Quincy. “I’ve never worked with anybody so versatile and talented; her voice is an amazing pitchblende of Patti Labelle, Melissa Etheridge, or Anastasia but has the elegance, say, of Lisa Stansfield, Ce Ce Winans, or Karen Carpenter. So far, Ohsha has demonstrated that she can sing anything – R & B, Dance, pop, rock, even heavy metal! Wait until you hear the songs Windows, Without You, or Afterdark. Pure raw energy and musical power. It’s amazing!”
“Many folks are going to be pleasantly surprised by the direction and cohesiveness of the solo material,” Ohsha playfully warns. This eccentric but seemingly effective musical collaboration – currently brewing in Central and West Florida, promises to be both unique and refreshing. “Imagine a combination of, say, Swing Out Sister, U2, Fifth Dimension, The Commodores, Warrant, Lady Gaga, The Stylistics, Pat Benatar, Beyonce, Donna Summer, Kelly Clarkson, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Nightwish, and Michelle Branch, combined with Alice in Chains, Amy Lee, Karen Carpenter, Lisa Stansfield, Jim Croce, John Denver, and Metallica.
“ It’s such an incredible musical potpourri and I’m very tickled pink to get started! That's all I can say right now,” she playfully winks. You can check out Ohsha Kai’s web site at www.Ohshakai.net! For information on Beatnik Castle, go to www.beatnikcastle.com.
